There are great bones on this game and I think you should keep refining it. There were quite a few fiddly, frustrating interactions. For instance, I had a lot of problems with the 'lip' some of the portal holes have.
I really like that while I couldn't quite understand the totality of the mechanic, the design of the levels let me 'feel' its character in each scenario. Again, really cool stuff! Looking forward to more from you.
I love the game! It contains many great puzzles! Here are my thoughts.
-The art style: It's simplistic, which is great for this type of concept. If it was more complex, it would distract from the gameplay, so the art is perfect!
-The idea: I have literally never seen such a great idea!! Never ending shapes have always been fascinating to me, so seeing something like this always brings me joy. I've tried to find games like this, but this concept is 100% unique!
-The puzzles: Oh my gosh! I love the puzzles! They are difficult and fun at the same time, something even AAA developers struggle to do!
-Movement: One gripe I have is the movement. It can feel so hard to position yourself at times, but overall good.
I give it a 10/10!!
But, levels like the last one really can be frustrating, so that is the only downfall I see. I love your videos and games Sam!
Love the recursion concept! (Which can be a nightmare for a programmer too.) The shape sizing part reminds me of a few Superliminal levels. My only complain is the control which landing point is a bit unpredictable.
Also if you don't mind I found a bug in level 12 where square will unreasonably duplicate itself. XD
The duplication is "intended". It follows the game logic: As soon as your square leaves the "main" ("n") box, he appears in smaller versions above the 2 "n-1" boxes.
So when your square comes back it's actually the two squares from the smaller boxes at the exact same position.
Love the puzzle designs! Controls were pretty frustrating though. Once I figured out where things needed to go I wished I could just move them there with wasd instead of having to aim those inconsistent jumps
I did it... I completed the game inside a game inside a game inside a game! I didn't know I had it in me, but in the end I was able to complete it! (and lost my mind in doing so...)
Sam, I absolutely love the concept of the game! I've never played a game before which made such a great use of recursion. I've actually never played a game before which made use of recursion in general, so props for coming up with that idea! I don't know how you keep doing it, but you keep impressing me with game concepts you come up with! Absolutely well done!
In the end I had a lot of fun wrapping the fibers of my brain around these recursion puzzles, even though the end of the video may tell you otherwise hahaha! It was very challenging, yet very possible and I really like that!
Overall a very challenging, enjoyable and especially original game! Very well done, Sam!
I finished all 16 levels but became more annoyed by the controls as I continued. The block would slide too much at times and it was a bit hard for me to tell how much the block would fling itself at max pull. This is not say I didn't have fun however the games was enjoyable and I like the idea its just I didn't wish I wasn't a stick of butter that bounced like a rubber ball. Great game though.
Also on level 15 the frame rate would drop the moment it loaded
I enjoy the content both playing these games as well as learning about how they are made
After an absolutely excruciating yet fun hour and giving up on level 16, I have some feedback I would love to share.
The Good:
- Beautiful aesthetic that matches the game perfectly
- Incredibly unique mechanic that can be layered
- Level design was very well done, introducing everything slowly
Could be improved:
- Holy slippery, please up the friction a bit
- The fun in the game comes from the main mechanic of moving through "dimensions." Having movement be visualized as a straight line takes focus away from the game. Having a curve that follows your path would be help this so that you always know where each jump is going to land you
- Adding to the discombobulation that comes from the rest, potentially desaturating the colors in the "non-active" dimensions could help to pull focus to which squares you have control over
I can not wait to see how this progresses with every update, great work thus far! :D
Love the concept, however really put off by the golf controls.
Oftentimes, I would have solved the puzzle in my head, but would be stuck wrestling the controls to get the box to actually move to where I want it, until I would get frustrated enough to quit the level.
It seems that this game is really 2 disparate ones stitched together, a clever puzzler about fractals and a skillshot minigolf game with a gravitational twist. They do not work together, in my opinion. The golf mechanic could be fun to explore in a separate game, but here it is a huge obstacle to what I think could be a really interesting puzzler!
If you replaced the golf controls with something more standard, like simple platformer controls, I think the game would greatly benefit from it.
I totally see what you mean by the mechanics not really fitting well. I'll definitely try out a more standard character controller and other things. Thanks so much for the feedback!
The concept is amazing but the game is ruined by the controls. Why bother making a ''supposed to be'' fun mind bending game and disregarding the hole experience by creating frustrating and unintuitive controls? with simple left right and jump controls the game would have been 10x better and the levels themselves could have been harder and more complex. By using simpler controls you can therefore create greater levels and more advanced mind bending puzzles. Sad that this unique game in a game missed greatness so close to it...
Is it possible for you to make more levels for cell machine I personally think the game has a lot of potential for more challenging, fun, and creative levels ?!?!?!?
I started to play it, but then I rememberd that if I want to play it, i firstly need to remember that if I want to play it, i firstly need to remember that if I want to play it, i firstly need to remember that if I want to play it, i firstly need to remember that if I want to play it, i firstly need to play the game first.

Oh you actually responded thank you love your games and videos.
there was a level that broke my gam

Excellent feedback! Thanks for taking the time to write this up!

Additional thought: keep the controls, remove the "max shots", add an undo last move button.
I totally see what you mean by the mechanics not really fitting well. I'll definitely try out a more standard character controller and other things. Thanks so much for the feedback!

I'll be trying out some different control schemes thanks to your feedback and others', I really appreciate the input!
No problem, I hope I wasn't too harsh and I'm eager to see the controls update. If you continue updating I'm sure the game will become great.
Is it possible for you to make more levels for cell machine I personally think the game has a lot of potential for more challenging, fun, and creative levels ?!?!?!?
Yo man you still alive? No activity at all for over a year...
This link will take you to Dot Big Bang which is a creator game, pls join me in it:)
when you're going back to youtube?
lol
I started to play it, but then I rememberd that if I want to play it, i firstly need to remember that if I want to play it, i firstly need to remember that if I want to play it, i firstly need to remember that if I want to play it, i firstly need to remember that if I want to play it, i firstly need to play the game first.
How to make a game in only 2 steps!
Wut?
lvl 15 is so weird
realy interesting that a game is inside a game that is inside a game
